How is Yakult produced?

Our mission is to create a happier world using lactic acid bacteria one bottle at a time. Since the first bottle wasproduced, our process has changed – but out goal remains the same.

what is the recipe for the perfect bottle of Yakult?

There are a few main elements: Yakult’s unique LcS bacteria, high quality ingredients and a complex fermentation process that is carried out under strict quality control and procedure. Did you know that the fermentation process takes almost a week each time a Yakult bottle is made? This is exactly what makes Yakult unique.

The iconic Yakult bottle

The iconic Yakult bottle hasn’t changed much since its origins in 1968. Designed by award winning designer Isamu Kenmochi, it was developed to be recognized for several things: a design that was easy to drink from and is completely original. Our well known bottle shape is inspired by the traditional Japanese Kokeshi doll, which is also known to be a good luck charm.

Billions of Bacteria

Yep – we’re really counting them! The quality control in our production factory ensures that there are a minimum of 20 billion of our unique bacterial strain L. casei Shirota, in each and every bottle. The control is carried out for each and every batch.
